Cameroon

Here is some basic info and facts about Cameroon and why I get to go there:
1.) I will be in Mbingo and Banso which is in the central-north part of the country near Bamenda.
2.) I will be providing physical therapy services as well as giving lectures for the people of Cameroon who are enrolled in a 1-2 year physical therapy program.
3.) Cameroon's official languages are English and French. The area I am going to is primarily English-Pigeon English to be exact. Hence, I will also be learning that language- FUN!!!
4.) I am not supposed to accept any gift from a Cameroonian male as this is the first step to the engagement process- YIKES!
5.) The area I am going to is in the mountains. I will be arriving during the wet season and leaving during the dry season. Temperatures look to be around the 70s.
6.)Cameroon is called 'mini'Africa due to its geological diversity (coast, desert, Sahara, mountains and rain forest)
7.) Cameroon is located on the Western coast of Africa in the 'armpit'.
8.) While there are people there with leprosy- the hospital I am going to has a leprosy ward- there are minimal NEW cases of leprosy. About 5.4% of people in Cameroon have AIDs. Diseases such as malaria and meningitis are still occurring and I had to have my yellow fever shot in order to get my VISA to enter Cameroon.
There are some tidbits-I'm sure I'll learn a WHOLE lot more once I get there!!

I can't wait to see pictures. You're going to have so much fun. It won't even seem like work, it will seem like vacation.
